Political Campaign Commercials: BTS

Behind the Scenes on local election commercials.

Every time an election season nears, our calendars fill up with plenty of campaign commercials. Sometimes it's someone campaigning for a local, "entry level" position, other times, someone is trying to move into the big-time in D.C. T.V. commercials are one of the most effective ways to get their message to voters. We turn a blind eye to our own political ideals, and do our best to create a commercial that will stand out.

Some commercials are simple, with just the candidate delivering a message to the camera. Other commercials may be much more elaborate with multiple locations, talent, and a huge crew. A great commercial requires all aspects to work together to tell the message. The right location, lighting, music, and pacing, are just as important as the script. Where it might seem like too much, we love bringing sliders, jibs, extra lighting, and cinema lenses. This can really help to create an amazing t.v. commercial, and wow the client.

If your Southern California or Las Vegas campaign needs a great commercial, look no further! We're a one-stop-shop for all your video production needs.

Down here in Southern California...

FiveSix Productions' crews hit the beaches from Long Beach to San Diego!

Do you know what's better than having sand literally everywhere on and in your body? Not much, because you must have been on the beach to get that way, and, if you're on the beach, you're winning. Down here in Southern California, we catch some shade for our clothing, but hey, Hawaiian shirts dude! What, are we supposed to wear tuxedos!? It's a bit different at our Long Beach office, than back at command-central in Las Vegas. Southern California video production doesn't mean dressing for the club or casino. (We love you Vegas!)

We absolutely love it down here, and it reflects in our work. From the sand in Seal Beach, to Griffith Observatory (I swear there's no better view of the city!). And we recently went down to San Diego's Gaslamp District. It's totally worth the drive to go check out all the cool bars- I mean, birds. When you are passionate about what you do, where you do it, and who you do it for- the results can't get any better.

If your next Southern California video production needs to be the best you've ever had, look no further than Long Beach video production company FiveSix Productions! (We do own a couple non-Hawaiian shirts, in case of emergencies!

Canon 5D Mark IV

New Canon 5D Mark IV!

Canon 5D Mark IV.

The Canon 5D Mark IV line of DSLRs from Canon is one of their finest product lines. The newest edition is the 5D Mark IV, and it definitely doesn't disappoint. Our 5D Mark II was a great camera, and we definitely had some amazing times together, like that one-time lapse we did, or that time we took a bunch of great still images. Alas, the gods didn't see fit for us to be together forever- as it was stolen away by a thief in the night.

We found the courage to put the broken pieces of our hearts back together, and upgrade to a 30.4 Megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, with a DIGIC 6+ image processor. Our fingertips have found warmth on the 3.2" touchscreen LCD monitor with 1.62m-Dot resolution. We have found renewed purpose knowing that the Mark IV records DCI 4K video at 30fps, and provides 8.8MP still grabs.

The Mark II definitely left a hole in our hearts, but, with time, the Mark IV can perhaps fill that void with its awesomeness. It's already on its way to film in the beautiful and mysterious state of Michigan, childhood home of Dumb and Dumber co-star Jeff Daniels. We hope we can be a part of your next Las Vegas video production and Long Beach video production soon.

Video Production Crew

Video production on the famous High Roller at the Linq.

While only a few years old, the High Roller at The Linq has quickly become a very popular attraction for tourists and cameras alike. Whether you're hitting Sin City for some fun, or, filming a commercial, television show, or the like, the Linq provides excellent views of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.

It's not just a matter of stepping into a pod with your crew and talent and hitting record though. First, of course you'll want to contact the fine folks over at the Linq (they're nice folks) and make sure it's cool to film; here's where you'll not only get permission, but you can also see if they can make any concessions for you. Once you get into your pod, you'll note that there is no power available- so, bring batteries. Second, there's not a ton of room- while you're not in the coat closet, you won't be able to put that jib up. Next, depending on what time of day you're in there, you may have quite a battle on your hands with the sun. During the day, your view is less than stellar... while Vegas tries valiantly to make everything look nice when the sun is out, we all know this city looks best bathed in neon. So, you may be thinking to yourself, "Okay Jim, no problem there, we'll shoot at night.", well, after availability, you'll want to remember that those pods do reflect something fierce, so you'll need to get creative lighting your talent. Once the sun goes down, and the strip lights up, it's absolutely stunning (for about 15 minutes at the top).

I can go on, but, you're probably bored to death if you've made it this far. So, instead, go give it a shot, or, let FiveSix Productions do it for you- no fuss, no muss. Put your beloved video shoot in the hands of the best Las Vegas video production company!?

Nucleus-M Follow Focus

We definitely felt like kids on Christmas Eve, as we waited for our Tilta Nucleus-M follow focus system to arrive. When it did, oh boy, were we excited! This thing is amazing. The kit includes three motors to drive focus, zoom, and iris; all of which can be daisy chained off the same power source. There is a handheld unit that can control all three motors simultaneously, or, two handles that can be mounted to a shoulder rig or our amazing DJI Ronin 2.

The Nucleus-M features multiple functions including programming start and stop points, calibrating lenses without hard-stops, 1000' transmission range, and more. This product is definitely an essential component of your next Las Vegas or Long Beach video production shoot; and will give the DP/camera op so much range and flexibility. Contact us today to book your next Las Vegas video production, and make sure to ask about including the Tilta Nucleus-M with our amazing Schneider cine-primes.

New shoulder rigs coming soon!

Every once and a while, you get that spark of imagination, the creative juices begin to flow... and suddenly, you have created something totally righteous. That's just what we're doing here at FiveSix Productions. We realize that to expand and improve upon what we can offer to our clients, and to continue to push the limits of what FiveSix Productions is capable of, well, we need to never stop expanding on our gear and skill sets. That's why we're building a pair of sleek, dynamic, and versatile shoulder-rigs that will allow us to push beyond what we've been able to do with our older shoulder rigs.

Now, don't get too excited, we didn't opt for the edition with the sparklers and mini-fridges, but we are pretty sure these will work just as well. Coupled with our new Tilta Nucleus-M follow focus system, and our upgraded power-distribution solution, anything from our Canon C300 Mark II's to our RED Epic Dragon will be set free. We are excited to announce that our new DJI Ronin 2 will also benefit from our Nucleus-M follow focus system, and between that and our shoulder rigs, series of sliders, jibs, and tripods, we've completely set our photography free.

Make sure to ask about our new shoulder rigs and DJI Ronin 2 when booking your next Las Vegas or Long Beach video production project with us.

Orange County video production

In an effort to reduce confusion, we're changing our official description from Los Angeles Video Production Company of Orange County to simply Orange County Video Production Company of Orange County.

Southern California, if you haven't noticed, is a big place, and there's never a shortage of video production work to be done. It's not just big budget films in Hollywood with explosions, lasers, beautiful movie stars, and all that- there is production everywhere. From Irvine to Thousand Oaks to San Bernardino, and all points between, there's a bountiful bouquet of commercials, corporate work, web videos, short films, documentaries, etc.

While we dream of Hollywood stardom like the next guy and gal, we here at FiveSix Productions love what we do, and where we do it. Producing industry-leading content, while striving to become the best Orange County video production company is what we're all about.

Our team and network of professionals have decades of experience in every aspect of the production process. From nurturing and developing your initial idea, throughout the final edit, we work relentlessly to deliver beyond your expectations. From our office in Long Beach, we're centrally located in the Los Angeles/Orange County metroplex, and we're excited to work with you on your next project!

Video Crew Positions

A guide to video crew positions.

We here at FiveSix Productions greatly value all the hard work and expertise that so many of our crew members bring to set everyday; from pre-production through the post process, our crews are the best. One of the character/work traits that we value the most is the ability for our team members to excel beyond the traditional, basic job requirements, and give more on set. For instance, our P.A.'s (Production Assistant in the U.S., Runner in the U.K.) may be asked to have basic knowledge in camera, audio, or footage management; while we don't typically ask our P.A.'s to do file transferring, some crews expect it. We have a great network of cinematographers, Directors of Photography, and camera operators, but some of our very skilled camera operators wouldn't go out as a D.P.; some crews/clients require that their "A Cam" or "Camera 1" operator is in fact, a D.P. Audio mixers and audio technicians are also two different things. An audio mixer may be expected to have a more thorough knowledge of audio, mixing, and maybe even the post process, where an audio tech may or may not have an advanced knowledge beyond the convention floor or basic interview audio. Also to consider, our grips, gaffers, and electricians occasionally find themselves on a set with a client from Philadelphia or London, where the gear may have different names. What we out west call our light dimmers, a gaffer from the U.K. most likely will call it a squeezer, so having a broad, extensive knowledge of your position will make the production run smoother.

From director of photography, to gaffer, audio tech, P.A., grip, producer, makeup, and the many other positions, we push ourselves to have the broadest and most extensive knowledge in our field. We at FiveSix Productions expect the best, and thus, we provide the best video production crews in Southern California and Nevada.

LB CEC

Long Beach Convention Center Essentials

The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center is an incredible, 400,000 square foot, multi-function facility right on the water, here in sunny, Long Beach, California. We at FiveSix Productions would like to give you a few tips and facts we've learned from shooting at this venue.

Again, the Long Beach Convention Center is big, and it's diverse. There's 224,000 square feet of exhibition space, additional meeting rooms of varying size on multiple levels, two theaters, and even an arena. Tying all these spaces together are various patios, promenades, mezzanines, etc. that are great for m.o.s. interviews because of the great redesign that's been going on over the last couple of years.

The LBC&EC does have in-house A/V, so make sure to confirm with your client or the A/V department to make sure you have everything you need, so you're not left without lights and sound. We've only had good encounters with the fine folks there.

Parking is generally $15.00 per car, in any of the three garages or the ground level lot; however, it's important to note that the rates do change on occasion depending on the event/garage. Here is the site's page with convenient directions from various airports/sides of the city/county.

Adjacent to the Convention and Entertainment Center is the Hyatt Regency Long Beach that includes its own events and meeting space. Clients that utilize the Long Beach Convention Center may reserve one of the hotel's suites to have one of our videographers conduct C-Suite level interviews, taking advantage of the great interiors (gets you away from those green screens).

Most importantly, a bit discouraging, but real champions will make it happen... the only Starbucks that's close is across Pine on The Paseo... So, you know... gotta put in the extra effort sometimes.

So, there you have it, some generalities and a couple little tips on the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. Remember, when you need the best Long Beach video production company, look no further than FiveSix Productions.
